OLIVET, Mich. — The University of Olivet softball team is preparing to begin the 2025-26 season. The Comets are coming off a season in which they finished 1-25, 0-10 at home, 0-16 against conference opponents, and endured a 19-game losing streak.

UO has several key players returning this season, such as junior Alexis Bond, who is also a captain this season, junior Hailey Wenke, senior captain Shaelyn Lampinen, and junior Zola Smith.

“Two transfers coming in, both of which are sophomores this year, Kyleigh Ramos and Megan Cox,” said head coach Michela Hamilton.

The Comets started their season off in Kentucky by competing at the Centre College Round-Robin Tournament. They won their first game by beating Asbury University, but then proceeded to lose their next three games, once to Asbury and twice to Centre College. They then competed on the road for a doubleheader against Grace Christian University, where they won the first game 12-6 but lost the second 10-4.

“I feel like playing more as a team and having energy has definitely led us to more wins, and our hitting has improved substantially,” said Bond.

Through 12 games, the Comets have hit 57 runs, which exceeds the run total from last season of 36. They have also won one more game than they did last year.

“Honestly, I feel like we took a 180 as a team. Everything’s finally falling together. We have a lot of really good freshmen and returners who are stepping up and making things happen,” said junior captain Kaitlyn Witkowski.

The Comets will be competing at home for their home opener against Wheaton College on Saturday, March 28.
