OLIVET, Mich.— The Echo Newspaper will be under new student leadership for the 2026-27 school year. Junior Gage McCrimmon has been selected as the new editor for the Echo and will take over for graduating senior Shae Lampinen.
McCrimmon is a double major in Media Production and Communication and Graphic Design. He earned an Associate’s degree in Graphic Design from Kellogg Community College before deciding to attend Olivet.
“I don’t want the Echo to feel like it’s just a media major thing,” said McCrimmon. “I want people who have different interests, different angles, different beats, to feel welcomed in their writing.”
Lampinen, who is the current editor, loves the ideas that McCrimmon is bringing to the Echo.
“I think [his ideas] are all amazing. I really want him to just get more people engaged. That is my biggest hope for the Echo because the Echo feels like an underground organization,” said Lampinen.
McCrimmon has already started making contact with clubs and organizations, such as the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Comet Activity Board, about potential stories about events that can be published next school year. He is also talking to students outside of the MPC major about joining the Echo.
“I think he’ll be able to bring in a lot of new ideas and more spotlight to campus opportunities,” said junior Bethany Stowell, who will be joining the Echo next year. “I also think he can help bring in new writers as he’s charismatic and seems passionate about taking over."
McCrimmon is set to take over as editor as soon as the next school year begins, which will be his senior year.
