OLIVET, Mich. - The University of Olivet will face off against Trine University on Thursday, October 16, at 7 p.m. The Comets are coming off their first win of the season after winning on the road against Kalamazoo 47-44. Trine is recovering from their loss to Hope last week, 55-35.
Olivet has not beaten Trine since 2019. Last season, the Comets lost to Trine 35-28.
Last week, the Comets gave up 456 yards of total offense and 44 points to Kalamazoo. On average, the Comets give up an average of 461 yards a game, the most in the MIAA.
On tonight’s matchup, defensive backs coach Derek Williams said, “All 11 on defense. We’re going to rotate some D line, and then we play about 8-9 a game.”
In Olivet’s last game against Kalamazoo, senior quarterback Charlie Grant threw for 410 yards, which is second all-time in school history and trails only Braden Black, who threw for 422 yards against Kalamazoo in 2013.
“I think we’re ready to go. I think we’ve prepared well all week,” said Grant.
Tonight’s game will only be the second time in the school’s history that they will play on Thursday.
"So, it’s a little bit different today, guys had to go to class today, you know, they’re student athletes and they got to get their schoolwork done,” said Olivet head coach Erik Ieuter.
Following their loss to Hope, Trine is prepared to bounce back against the Comets.
“Everyone do the one eleven we will dominate… there's eleven people on the field, everyone has to do their job,” said senior running back Cortaveon Barnett, senior.
