A Record Breaking Start for Olivet Track and Field

Olivet Track and Field has begun their indoor track season for 2023 and it was a historical start to say the least. The Olivet team traveled to Trine University for the Sean Brady Invitational on Jan. 14, 2023.

At the meet there were many notable performances. The women’s 4x800 meter relay set a new indoor school record with a time of 10:47.02 minutes. The members of the team were Sarah Grove, freshman, Abbey Peters, sophomore, Allyson Stevens, junior, and Tonya Tepin, junior.

Jordon Brown, senior, also broke two indoor track school records at the meet. He competed in the 60 meter dash where he ran it in 7.07 seconds, breaking the previous record. According to Geoff Henson, the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information and Communications the previous record was set in in 2018 by John Adams III (7.08 seconds).

Brown also broke the record for the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.69 seconds, beating the previous record of 22.74 seconds that he set himself in 2022.

According to Brown, he had the goal to break these records long before the meet. “In September I told my roommate on Jan. 14, 2023, I was going to break the school record for the 60 meter and 200 meter dash.”

Brown also put in extra time to prepare for the meet. “Since it was our season opener to get prepared, I stayed in Olivet over Christmas break just so I could train and get myself ready for the season.”

For the 2023 season Brown has lots of goals. “My goals for the 2023 track season are to score as many points as I can for my team at the conference meet. My number one goal for the 2023 season is to be an All-American in both indoor and outdoor. I want the chance to fight for that national championship trophy,” said Brown.
