Wrestling: Cole Hersch Has Honed His Style

Olivet College wrestling recently embarked on winning the MIAA championship against Alma College. The final outcome was 24-13. Cole Hersch junior really enjoys wrestling and how it has helped him prepare for life.

Junior Cole Hersch is a wrestler who described how wrestling has changed his life.

“Wrestling is a passion of mine as I have wrestled since I was four years old so being able to continue my career here in college was a blessing; and because of it, it has helped open opportunities to take what I have learned back home and teach other younger athletes through camps and other practices that I ran for my home towns club and high school team,” Hersch said.

Hersch has been big in the wrestling department, winning MIAA wrestler of the week this season. Additionally, he is one of the three Olivet College wrestlers who has won All-MIAA honors, but Hersch is not satisfied yet; he has big plans for the remainder of the season.

“Wrestling has been going good so far. I cannot say that I am particularly satisfied yet though as there are a couple of opponents that I have lost to that I will see at regionals. Although I have had victories worth celebrating for like I said before I am just happy to be able to compete still,” Hersch said.

Hersch’s teammates commented on his work ethic in wrestling.

“He is a hardworking individual and he pushes me to be better; that guy has a pace that is crazy and he is not afraid to apply the pressure,” junior Andrew Castaneda said.

“The season is going good, many wrestlers getting ready and training hard for regionals coming up in a couple weeks. Cole Hersch is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen; he never gives up,” senior Logan Beaudoin said.

Wrestling ended the Feb. 26 NCAA Division III Central Regional at Arian College in sixth place with 92 points.
