Home Stands Begin for Comet Baseball

Never mind that the major leagues started just this past weekend, Olivet Comets baseball has been batting balls since Feb. 25 in preparation for MIAA play.

The 39-man roster sports 18 freshmen, 11 sophomores, four juniors and sixseniors under the leadership of second-year coach Andrew Merchant, assisted by Shelby Dixon and Steve Wendry, according to the Olivet College Athletics website.

In February, the team played in a tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, nishing 1-2. Since then, the Comets have held a 3-4 record before facing MIAA competition. At Albion, March 24 and 25, the Comets took one of four games against theBrits.

Two of those games were played at home on March 25, in sunny by windy conditions. The 6-5 win in the second game that afternoon saw freshman Ryan Rivard starting on the mound, and senior Joseph Crosby coming in in the ninth toearn his second save of the season. Senior Aaron Holliday threw two innings of relief to earn the win.

The Comets faced Hope on March 29 after press time, at home, and were scheduled again at Hope on March 31.

The next home game is Saturday, April 7 against Adrian at 1 and 3:30 p.m., fol-lowed by two games at Adrian on Sunday. The next home stand is Sunday, April 15against Trine at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
