The Olivet baseball team defeated the Adrian College Bulldogs 4-2 on Monday, March 27, marking the program’s first win against the Bulldogs in 11 years and ending a run of 46 consecutive losses to Adrian in a called game in the seventh inning because of darkness. The previous win against Adrian occurred on April 5, 2006, in which the Comets defeated the Bulldogs 5-2. The win also snapped a 20-game conference losing streak in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) for the Comets.
Getting the win for the Comets was freshman pitcher Zac Walter from Walled Lake. The right-hander allowed two runs on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts over 5.2/3 innings pitched before being relieved by senior left-hander Brady Johnson who picked up his second save of the season with 1.1 /3 scoreless innings pitched allowing just three hits. Walter picked up his second win in as many starts improving his win-loss record to 2-0 on the season and is tied for fourth in the MIAA in wins.
In each of Walter’s starts, he has helped contribute to breaking two long losing streaks for the Comets. On March 14, Walter allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts over seven innings pitched to defeat Daniel Webster College (New Hampshire) 6-3 at the RussMatt Invitational in Winter Haven, Florida ,and snap a 28-game losing streak dating back to the 2016 campaign.
