The Brass Tacks Quartet, a tuba and euphonium quartet from Michigan State University, will perform at Olivet College Tuesday, April 12, as part of the college’s Gear Recital Series. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 8 p.m. at the Olivet Congregational Church. The quartet will perform music from a variety of styles, from classical music to contemporary, to jazz and blues.
Formed in August 2015, Brass Tacks dedicates its time to bringing the tuba-euphonium quartet experience to as many new audiences as possible. The artists in Brass Tacks have been finalists in national professional auditions as well as solo competitions, including the Leonard Falcone International Tuba and Euphonium Festival and International Tuba and Euphonium Association (ITEA) solo and excerpt competitions. As a group, Brass Tacks has been selected as a semi-finalist in the 2016 ITEA ensemble competition, and will compete in May against top ensembles from around the world.
