Olivet College consists of many things: academics, community and for many students – sports. Countless hours are put into making the most of the four seasons of athletics. This year, this extra effort has put Olivet at the forefront of MIAA athletics, with broken records and personal achievements for teams, leaving many excited for what’s to come.
The sports that have had outstanding seasons for the Comets include:
Football: Comet football ended the season with a 9-1 record. They also clenched a share of the conference title earning them a ring. This is the first time that Olivet has won the conference since 2007. The last time Olivet had eight wins in a season was 2004.
Women’s Soccer: The women ended the season with an 11-6-3 overall record, which is the most wins since 2010. With eight MIAA wins, this tied for the most in school history (Olivet had eight in 2001). The Comet soccer team also qualified for the MIAA tournament for the first time since 2010. The team also had two players make the MIAA first-team, including senior goalkeeper Deanna Zolnoski and sophomore Isabelle Leon; senior Lauren Vanderhoff landed a spot on the MIAA second-team.
Women's Volleyball: The women ended their season with a 14-14 overall record. They had the second-most wins in school history for a single season. The last time Olivet had double digit wins was in 2010.
Women’s Cross-Country: Junior Allyson Schultz earned individual second-team all-MIAA honors, becoming only the second female cross country runner in school history to earn all-MIAA honors.
Women’s Golf: Golfers finished the season second behind Hope in the MIAA standings for a second straight season. Olivet has now finished either first or second in the MIAA standings every year since 2004. Individually, junior Laura Bacso moved up to earn first-team all-MIAA honors after being a second-team pick last year. Senior Brooke Kastamo earned first-team all-MIAA honors for a second straight year and capped her career as four-time all-MIAA selection. Casey Lamp earned second-team all-MIAA honors for a fourth straight year.
Following this record-breaking fall season for the Comets, winter sports such as men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, men’s volleyball and men’s and women’s swimming and diving are looking to raise the bar even higher for Olivet College athletics as they prepare for the upcoming season.
