Brown replaces Farnum as new softball coach

Olivet College athletics welcomed Darrick Brown as the new head softball coach on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Brown spent his last two seasons at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek. While there, he led the Bruins to a 37-13 overall record in 2015, winning the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference championship and earning a spot in the 2015 NJCAA District I Tournament.

“So far we’ve had four practices so it’s pretty early, but I’d say we are definitely raising the bar and we have high expectations for the direction of the softball program,” Brown said. “The team is working very hard and our energy is good in our fall practices. We have a lot to work on, but we are just going to focus on getting stronger and better fundamentally every day,” Brown said.

The team is excited to welcome Coach Brown and see what their upcoming season has in store.

“I think Coach Brown coming in will help us become more of a team and give us a more positive atmosphere,” junior pitcher Ashlynn Grubb said.

“He has a lot of expectations for us and goals we want to accomplish this year. He is really motivated to change the way people see the softball program here at Olivet,” Grubb said.

The softball team is currently in fall ball, with their 2016 season kicking off in March.
