Olivet Winter Parking Restrictions to Take Affect

Beginning Nov. 1, students at Olivet College will no longer be able to park on streets owned by the City of Olivet. This change is part of a yearly rule set in place by the City during the winter months.

In an email sent to Olivet College students, Campus Safety stated the restrictions will take affect “from November 1 to April 1“ and will prohibit “parking on streets owned by the City of Olivet between 2 and 6 a.m.”

According to a separate statement provided by the City of Olivet, “The restrictions are in place to ensure the roads are clear of vehicles in case there is a need to plow snow. The Department of Public Works can easily clear the roads and parking spaces along the roads if no vehicles are present.”

The city also said, “violations of the Seasonal Parking Restrictions are $15.00 if paid within ten days. If paid after ten days, the fine doubles to $30”

In regards as of where to park with most streets unavailable, commuter student Bree Bess said finding parking lots available and close to buildings she has classes in is something she focuses on.

“I usually park behind the Conservatory, since most of my classes are in that building or in the basement of the Kirk Center,” said Bess.

For those who need help finding parking spots, Bess said, “Asking Campus Safety about available parking space and regulations would be a good place to start.
