Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued a "Stay-at-Home" order for the state of Michigan. The order goes into effect tonight at midnight and will continue until midnight on April 13.
In an email sent by Olivet College President Steven M. Corey, the college will continue with remote learning during this period.
Corey said, "As we outlined in prior emails to the community, “essential” individuals who are required to be on-site for essential work functions — including faculty and staff members deemed essential to operations, remote learning, and in support of students in residence — will still come to work if they are well. All employees who can perform their work remotely are expected to do so and should not come to campus until directed to return."
Michigan residents will still be allowed to leave the house for groceries, pharmacy and doctor visits, and gas, but are advised to continue social distancing and self-isolation if unwell. Those who are well may leave the house to practice outdoor activities that still follow social distancing rules, such as taking a walk or just sitting on the porch to get some sun. Continue to avoid crowds.
UPDATE AS OF APRIL 9, 2020: The order has been extended until April 30. According to the emergency alert sent via smartphone, "Non-essential travel has been prohibited, but you can still leave the house for health and safety reasons, groceries and food, outdoor activities, and caring for others."
