2018 OCMS Bests Past Two Year’s Records Combined

The Olivet College men’s soccer (OCMS) team has already won as many games than the previous two year’s records combined.

In 2017, the Comet’s conference record was 1-8-5. In 2016, the Comet’s record was 3-9-12. At the time of publication, the 2018 season record currently stands at 4-6-1.

“This year is going to be very exciting. We’re a young team with a lot of potential,” said sophomore goalkeeper Justin Lavin.

Freshmen are getting considerable time on the field and are acclimating to the team quickly. “I want to make sure everyone is comfortable with their role [on the team],” said coach Dan Montanye. Montanye is in this third year at Olivet.

“We have so much more to prove given our record last year. We have really come together as a team, and it will show itself on the scoreboard,” said Lavin.

The incoming classes of 2021 and 2022 have boosted the team chemistry; the new team rapport is building trust among the players, which elevates

their level of play.

“It’s a great atmosphere. We have all become family over the first couple weeks together, and hopefully we can do great things this season,” said freshman Dominik Burmeister. Burmeister

has played in nine out of nine games this season, starting eight of them.

In his senior year, Burmeister’s highschool team, Dexter, had a winning record of 16-1-1. The next three games are all against conference opponents. The full schedule for OCMS can be found at www.olivetcomets.com/sports/msoc
