The Double Nickel Party Store, over the past several months, has been working on installing gas pumps, and now is entering the final stages of this project, but not before a hiccup in the process.
During late November and December, the Double Nickel did not have a permit to put the gas tanks into the ground on the north end of the store because there’s a small creek there. “We had state approval and city approval, but we did not have the Drain Commissioner approval which we didn’t know we needed,” said Double Nickel owner Lori Weseman in a sit down interview about the biggest struggle of this project.
The Double Nickel will have two gas pumps both with regular gas and diesel, then one gas pump with high flow diesel for farm equipment. The gas pumps are going to be installed Jan. 23. There will also be a grand-opening in the spring, but a date has not been determined.
“I’m absolutely ecstatic about the new gas pumps; it gives us another option. Just the feel of the Double Nickel is so welcoming and I can’t wait till it’s fully functional,” Olivet College Senior Rachel Zeiler said in a telephone interview.
Olivet College Junior Jenna Benevuti had this to say about the Double Nickel in a telephone interview,: “ I’ve always drove by the store, but have never gone in it. I think this may change my mind.”
The Double Nickel’s hours are, Monday through Thursday 5:30 a.m-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Sunday the Double Nickel will be open form 8 a.m.- 9 p.m.
“They are very excited,; everyone comes in here and tells me how excited they are for the gas pumps, and I hope they are telling me the truth,” said Weseman about her customers feelings about the whole process.
