The staff of 89.1, WOCR Olivet College radio, invites the campus to celebrate the spirit of student broadcasting on College Radio Day, Friday, Nov. 4.
The community is invited to visit the radio station during the day. It is located in the basement of the Kirk Center. This event includes karaoke for students that the station will broadcast live. This will take place downstairs in the Kirk Center starting at 8 p.m.
WOCR has been a student-run radio station since 1977, started by students and still run that way. About two dozen DJs and staff support the station, which is streamed live, 24/7 at www.wocrfm.com.
Started in 2012, World College Radio Day has now been recognized in more than 30 countries. It’s a day of live music and special interviews. It’s the day college radio promotes itself, as event organizers write on the event web site, as one of the last remaining bastions of creative radio programming, free from the constrictions of having to be commercially viable, and a place where those involved in its programming believe passionately in its mission.
The aim of College Radio Day is to raise a greater, international awareness of the many college and high school radio stations that operate around the world by encouraging people who would not normally listen to college radio to do so on this day.
