New Restaurant in Olivet

Are you looking for somewhere to eat that isn’t the Kirk Center, but it is still within walking distance? If so, you are in luck because Olivet is getting a new restaurant right here on campus.

According to Olivet College’s Instagram and Twitter accounts, the new restaurant is going to be called Block House. This will only be the second ever Block House. According to Block Houses’ Instagram, the other one is located in Alma, Michigan and opened in October of 2020.

It will be taking the place of LampLighter OC which was a bar and grill here in Olivet for many years. It is located right across from the Marathon gas station and next to Street’s Eats.

What makes Block House unique is that it is not only a place where you go to eat and drink. They also incorporated esports, or electronic sports, into their restaurant.

According to the University of Oklahoma, esports is “a multiplayer video game played competitively for spectators, typically by professional gamers.”

Esports have grown in popularity over the past couple of years so mixing that with a restaurant was a smart idea.

People can go in like a normal restaurant and eat and drink while also watching esports right in front of them. Block House has many different leagues for different ages levels. It will have elementary, high school, college, and rec leagues.

It will also have two professional esports coaches that are available for booking. They are verified in games like Fortnite, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and many others.

If you are not into esports, you can still enjoy your time at Block House. They will have a variety of options for food and drinks to enjoy with your friends and family. Block House is expected to open in 2023.
