Mott will soon be home to a Starbucks café, thanks to Olivet College’s 2020 and Beyond campaign. Think pumpkin spice lattes in the Fall Semester.
According to the Olivet College website, the campaign is “the most ambitious and

comprehensive campaign in the college’s history.” This campaign is also the reason that educational buildings all over campus will continue to be renovated and upgraded to better students learning experiences.
According to Olivet college website, “When completed in the spring of 2018, this contemporary café (Starbucks) will allow students to meet, study and engage naturally in a much more desirable environment.”
Although there is no word on the exact date for the construction or opening of this Starbucks students around campus have their own insight on this new addition. Senior Kadesha Taylor said, “I think having a Starbucks on campus is exciting, I believe that it will allow a lot more students to interact with each other because it provides a space for them to sit down and relax I hope it will be beneficial for the school and students.” The café will be located in what is now the Barker Cawood Lounge, just off the main lobby entrance.
Freshman Shane Duncan said, “I think the Starbucks will be a great addition to Mott; not only does it give current students a coffee shop, but possibly new students visiting may even be attracted to our college.”
Starbucks was founded in Seattle, Washington, in 1971. Venessa Wong, a blogger for Bloomberg.com said,“In 2014, there were roughly 11,500 Starbucks outlets in the U.S., but only about 300 of them are on U.S. campuses.” Since 2014, the number of Starbucks in the U.S. has grown to 13,327 and colleges all over America are adding Starbucks to their campus, just like Olivet.
