New Skating Rink Open on Campus

Student Government Association at Olivet College recently put an ice-skating rink on campus for students and the community. The ice-skating rink opened Jan 30 and will be open as long as the ice is frozen. Skates are provided as well as hot chocolate and little snacks.

Jason Meadows stated in an email that they will be expanding the hours to 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day instead of 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the weekends to get more use out of the rink. If you need access to skates, you can call the ice rink duty phone at 269-275-8218 or campus safety at 269-749-7911. Make sure you have your student ID when you go so you can check out the skates.

Due to Covid-19, you will have to wear a mask and practice social distancing on the rink. There can be 35 people on the ice at one time. Reservations can also be arranged for large groups at certain times.

Some students shared their thoughts on the new skating rink.

Kaitlyn Horstdaniel, sophomore, said, “I think it is a good idea but at the wrong time...I don’t know how the sanitation is going so during this time with Covid-19 I don’t think it is the best idea right now.”

Blake McLane, freshman, said, “I think the ice rink was a really good idea. In Olivet there wasn’t a lot to do in the winter and the rink brought a fun activity for everyone in Olivet.”

Kaylee Eagan, sophomore, said, “It is a fun activity to do during the winter. With it being so cold out no one is using it that much including me. Once the weather gets better, I think it will get a lot of attention again.”

Come out to the ice-skating rink located in the field across from Long apartments, open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information you ca
