Olivet College has been designated as a 2018-19 Gold-level Veteran Friendly School by the Michigan Veterans AffairsAgency (MVAA).
MVAA’s Veteran-Friendly School Program recognizes academic institutions of higher learning committed to supporting the needs of student-veterans and dependents. Olivet has been named to the highest level status of institutions that o er veteran-centric services and programs.
“The importance Olivet College places on our veteran students speaks to the level of respect we have for those who have served our country,” said Leslie Sullivan, Olivet College’s registrar and designated correspondent with the Department of Veterans Affairs. “This is why we created the Veterans Scholarship as a way of support- ing the educational desires of veterans, reservists, guardsmen and dependents of veterans. By 2019, there will be an estimated 245,000 service members who will leave the military to enter civilian life. Many of these men and women are 25 years of age or youngerand under ve percent have earned abachelor’s degree. Olivet College is ana ordable alternative for service members looking to obtain their degrees and Olivet pairs this financial assistance with personal mentorship.”
The Olivet College Veteran Scholarship for veterans, active military members and their families equals 50 percent of tuition costs. In addition, the student services office assists veterans, active duty military students and dependents of veterans with certification, registration and financial aid. Further,the campus is home to a support organization for veteran and active duty students and their families.
“Regardless of veteran status, I encourage everyone to check out Olivet College, but for veterans specifically, I want others to know that OC always does everything they can for veterans,” first-year student-veteran Brooke Roberts said. “I love the small school and I love the teachers — and how easy it is to communicate with them. If you have a question, it is always easy to get an answer because teachers get back to you right away, and that’s just awesome.”
