Ryan Anderson to Transfer to Rutgers University

January 31, 2017

Senior punter Ryan Anderson of the Olivet College football team has declared that he will be transferring after he graduates from Olivet this May to play his final season of college football at Rutgers University this fall.

Rutgers is a Division I school in the Big Ten Conference in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Scarlet Knights are coached by Chris Ash, who will be entering his second season as the football coach at Rutgers this season. Under Ash’s leadership, the Scarlet Knights went 2-10 in his first season.

Anderson is excited at the opportunity to play at Rutgers. “It is a dream come true, I've been saying for as long as I can remember that I wanted to play in the Big Ten and it is extremely humbling to finally realize this dream,” Anderson said via email. “The fact that Rutgers plays in arguably the most competitive conference in college football and the people there sold me on it. The coaching staff is doing great thing and their facilities are top notch.”

Anderson leaves Olivet after two seasons of punting and holding, which are the positions he will play at Rutgers.  He set the single-season Division III punting average record at 46.2 yards in 2016.  Anderson also was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American first team and D3football.com second team All-American team in 2016. In addition to punting and holding, Anderson was also a wide receiver and on the hands team for the Comets, earning the nickname Mr. Everything.

“My last two years here have been nothing short of spectacular. Olivet is a great place and will always be home to me. The bonds I've built with my teammates and the relationships I've built with my coaches and the administration will last a lifetime. Olivet College is truly a special place that deserves all the credit in the world,” Anderson said of his time at Olivet College.
