President Steven M. Corey was granted a five-year contract at the most recent Board of Trustees meeting.
Corey joined Olivet as its 27th president in December 2010.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to continue to serve Olivet College,” Corey said. “This college has a special place in my heart and I’ve been honored to have had the chance to serve as president for these past six academic years. This great college has made a real difference in the lives of so many, including my own. I’m honored that the board, faculty, and staff, students and friends of the college have given me the chance to continue our work together in the years ahead.”
As president, Corey is the chief executive and administrative officer for the Board of Trustees. His duties includes being responsible for the organization and administration of the college, direct the development of the campus building programs and oversee other institutional affairs. Beyond his presidential responsibilities, Corey is also a campus cheerleader for student programs and organizations. Students, staff and faculty respect him for his involvement across campus and support.
“I’m very happy to hear about the renewal of President Corey’s contract. He is such a down-to-earth and motivating figure who truly cares about the students’ needs. He is always working with and for us to create that vision of what Olivet College can be. He’s really making great things happen for the college,” said junior Xavier Vance.
In Corey’s tenure, Olivet College has made advances in academic programs, undergone an admissions overhaul, improved residential housing conditions, improved the college’s financial health, and seen a rebirth of the marching band after a 30-year hiatus.
For Corey, these changes are just the tip of the iceberg as the college looks toward the future.
“There’s still much to do to accomplish the goal that we’ve set out for ourselves in the charting course to 2020 and beyond, we need to continue to make advances in all of these areas,” Corey said.
Provost Maria Davis, who works hand-in-hand with Corey, has been witness to his investment in the college. Davis said that throughout his presidency, Corey has driven forward progress with strong leadership and a commitment to the college’s 2020 Plan.
“President Corey has provided tremendous leadership to the college and has worked hard to develop the human and financial resources necessary to make our strategic vision a reality. We only need to look at the tremendous improvements that have been made to campus in recent years for visible evidence of this. There have been many other less tangible but equally important improvements in our organization, processes and teamwork. There are so many more good things in store for our students under President Corey’s leadership. He has helped launch Olivet College on a path to a brighter, more sustainable future,” Davis said.
