Olivet’s Women’s lacrosse team (0-3) faced the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears (4-5) on March 29, at the Cutler Event Center. Olivet’s first home game of the season did not go as planned, as ONU defeated the Comets 14-2.

Olivet’s Coach Mackenzie Inman had this to say about her team’s performance: “We just need to be more aggressive and come out with a little more heart; our heart hasn’t quite been there and we need to step it up.”

Throughout most of the night ONU would capitalize on Olivet’s turnovers and lack of fundamentals. ONU was led by three freshman players, Maggie Fuller who scored five goals, Madeline Storr who scored four goals, and Alexandra Miller who scored four goals.

“I think just everyone doing their part and taking care of the little things was the key to winning because once we took care of the little things everything came together. This is a good win, it’s our first year and as long as we are stepping in the right direction that is our main goal. It isn’t always the outcome that is most important but a win like this is good because it gives us a little more confidence.” ONU coach Beth Hemminger said in a recorded interview.

ONU got off to a quick start scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the contest, by Fuller at 25:47 then just a little more than a minute later Storr scored.

The Comets would respond at the 22:20 mark of the first half by Mary Dalrymple a sophomore, but ONU’s Fuller would quickly strike back with her second goal of the evening at 19:05.

During the rest of the first half ONU took over going on a 5-1 run in the last 10 minutes.

The second half saw much of the same result as the Polar Bears scored four straight goals in the first 10 minutes. Miller struck at 25:53 then only 30 seconds later Morgan Weithman a senior got in on the action scoring her first goal of the evening. Within the same minute Storr scored her fourth goal.

With the score at 12-2 halfway through the second half the mercy rule began as the clock would continuously run until the end of the game. This would not stop the Polar Bears from scoring two more goals before the end of the contest, again by Miller and Fuller.
