More history is about to be made in the Olivet College sports program

This coming fall, Olivet will introduce men’s bowling for the first time in college history. Athletic Director Ryan Shockey made this announcement in a recent email statement. Olivet will bowl at the M-66 bowling lanes in Battle Creek.

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of men’s bowling to our growing athletic department. The success of our women’s program has illustrated a high demand for the sport, and we are happy to provide this new and exciting opportunity for Comet student athletes,” said Shockey in the statement.

Olivet is searching for both a men’s and women’s head coach after Karine Walters has announced she will be stepping down this women’s bowling season. Men’s bowling will be the 25th sport offered at Olivet. The women’s bowling team has played seven games this season.

“One thing I would like to see change about our bowling team is having more competitions throughout the season,” senior Megan Wright said. “I think our bowling program will rise with a new men’s team; we will be able to have a lot of quality bowlers in the future with all the new scholarships offered.”

The women’s bowling team played on Feb. 27 to end the season at the American Heartland Conference Championship in Chestland.
