Olivet has a new Snapchat filter

Olivet College is on the map! The Snapchat map that is. To access the filter, make sure you have allowed Snapchat to use your location on your phone’s settings menu. Then, snap a pic and swipe right! Ta-da! Snapchat has officially recognized Olivet College. First reports of this came on the morning of Feb. 3. It’s hard to say if our icon will be here to stay as some filters are only temporary. However, most filters based on location have lasted since their premiere on Snapchat.

Snapchat is an app that was introduced in 2011 and has since risen to immense popularity. The app stays fresh to users by continuously updating and adding fun ways to make snaps unique. One of these features has been the ability to add filters or icons to a snap after it has been taken. A few of the first filters simply changed the color of snaps to black and white as well as other color manipulations. Soon, Snapchat also allowed advertisements for movies and included the time, temperature and speed that snaps were taken at. Next, the filters became location based and would appear when in a certain city or state if the user allowed Snapchat to access their location information. Finally, large colleges and universities had icons that became available while on campus. And now a place that is near and dear to our hearts is also recognized on the Snapchat map: Olivet College.
