The stylish and popular Pyne Pavilion, named in honor of alumnus George F. Pyne III, now stands at the Cutler Athletic Complex in his memory.

Pyne, 74, died Nov. 26 in his hometown of Milford, Massachusetts. He had been battling cancer for 11 years.

No stranger to a good fight, Pyne was a member of the title-winning 1960s Comet Football team, and then drafted to the then Boston Patriots in 1965. He, his father George, and his son, Jim, were the first three-generation family in the National Football League.

After college and NFL football, Pyne found a career in life insurance, working with Mass Mutual Life until the 1980s, when he founded Hillview Equipment & Real Estate Development Company, also in his hometown.

He did not stray far from Massachusetts during his life, entrenched in social, religious and community work in and around Milford and Falmouth.

In addition to his All Conference and All American honors at Olivet College, Pyne became a member of the Olivet College Board of Trustees. He was married to wife Roseleen for 51 years. They have four children.

Services were set for Dec. 1 in Milford.
